SNOW! My first day
of snow in Grenoble! And in October! And I thought weather in Illinois was
frighteningly strange, but this just takes the cake! As I saw the snowflakes
twinkle on my skylight, I threw, literally, threw myself out of bed, threw on
the warmest clothes I could find, snagged my camera, and ran downstairs and
stepped out into the street as Super Tourist, ready to explore the winter
wonderland that Grenoble became. I shuffled my way through the snow and visited
some familiar places, except now they were a little different - they were SNOWY
places! I stopped by the Préfecture, Jardin de Ville, Place Victor Hugo, Rue
Saint-Laurent, and Little Italy. Walking through Jardin de Ville was very
interesting…never in my life had I seen a palm tree with snow on it, and I
never thought I would see that, either. But I did. It was like a little mixture
of Illinois and Florida, all wrapped up in a cute little French box. I really
enjoyed going up to Little Italy, too. I was just far enough up the mountainside
to get a view of Grenoble under a blanket of snow, and I could also look up and
see the snowy trees dotting the side of the mountain. I was truly lost in a
winter wonderland. What a happy day. =) Aside from getting home, realizing my
boots were ripping and they became little freezing-cold slush-vessels for my
feet, and sitting in front of the heater for a good thirty minutes and wanting
to cry, today was such a magical day! I can't wait for the next Grenoblois
snowfall!
